Every Microsoft Surface comes with a one-year hardware warranty. It covers parts that fail on their own. It does not cover a drop, a spill, or a cracked screen.
For a business, Microsoft sells protection plans on top of that, for up to five years in total. The useful ones cover accidental damage and include Advanced Exchange: Microsoft ships the replacement first, and the broken one goes back in the same box. The top tiers add next-business-day shipping and, on models with a removable drive, let you keep the drive, so your data never leaves the building.
The plans have limits worth knowing. Most cover two replacements or repairs in total, capped at what the computer cost. And they must be bought within 45 days of the computer. After that, the answer is no.
A replaced device keeps the rest of the original warranty, or 90 days, whichever is longer. A paid repair out of warranty comes with 90 days.
To check a device yourself, the Surface app shows its warranty dates, and repairs are started and tracked at account.microsoft.com/devices.
For our clients, none of this lands on you. We buy the plan with the computer, keep the dates on record, and file the claim. While the replacement is on its way, the spare from our shelf is already on someone's desk. Why we buy the business edition in the first place.

How long is the Microsoft Surface warranty?
One year from Microsoft, for parts that fail on their own. Drops, spills and cracked screens are not covered without a protection plan.
What is Advanced Exchange?
Microsoft ships the replacement Surface first, and the broken one goes back in the same box, so nobody waits for a repair.
When does the Surface protection plan have to be bought?
Within 45 days of buying the Surface. After that, Microsoft will not sell one for that device.
Does a replacement Surface get a new warranty?
It keeps the rest of the original warranty, or 90 days, whichever is longer. A paid repair outside the warranty comes with 90 days of its own.
