Outlook 2010 or later must be installed on your computer.  It is highly recommended that you setup Outlook using Autodiscover.  Autodiscover allows Outlook to connect directly to the Exchange server to obtain the required server settings.  The full set of Exchange features listed below will not be available without Autodiscover.


  • Autodiscover Outlook configuration
  • Offline Address Book (OAB)
  • Calendar Free busy lookup
  • Calendar Resource Assistant
  • Out of Office Assistant (OOF)


Autodiscover involves two main steps:

  1. Your DNS provider will need to add an Autodiscover (CNAME) DNS record.
  2. The user will need to create their own Outlook profile by following the steps listed in this document.


Configuring Outlook for Windows


If you have no prior configuration associated with Outlook, simply start the Outlook application and follow the on screen prompts.

If you have previously configured Outlook, please follow the steps below.

  1. Click the Windows Start button then click Control Panel.
  2. Click the Mail (Depending on your version of Windows, you may need to switch to Classic View or Icon view to find Mail. If using Vista X64, click the show 32-bit app folder then click Mail.
  3. Click the Show Profiles
  4. Click the Add button to create a new profile.
  5. Enter a name for this profile, then click the OK button (This can be anything).
  6. In the Auto Account Setup window enter your Name, E-mail Address and Password
  7. You may see a pop-up window asking if you want to Allow this website to configure your server settings.  If so, check the box for “Don’t ask me about this website again”, then click the Allow
  8. When prompted, enter your Username and Password. Your username is your entire email address, using all lowercase letters.
  9. If your DNS records are properly configured, you should see a message that states, “Your e-mail account is successfully configured and is ready to use.”
  10. Click the Finish
  11. Before closing the Mail application, select “Always use this profile” and select your new profile from the drop down.
  12. Click OK.


Configuring Outlook for Mac

If you have no prior configuration associated with Outlook, select Add Account from the Welcome Screen to start the account setup wizard then select Exchange Account.

If you have previously configured Outlook, please follow the steps below.


  1. If Outlook is running, hold the Option (Alt) key and Click Outlook on the Dock
  2. Click Quit to force close Outlook
  3. Hold the Option (Alt) key and Click Outlook to open the Microsoft Database Utility
  4. Click the plus [+] sign on the bottom left
  5. Name your new identity (this can be anything)
  6. Then select your new identityand click on the configuration icon
  7. Choose Set as Default
  8. Close this window and open Outlook.
  9. Open Outlook and click Tools,then Accounts.
  10. In the Accounts window, click the Dropdown Menu to the right of the “+” in the lower left corner and select Exchange.
  11. Enter your Email Address and ensure the Authentication Method is set to User Name and Password.
  12. Enter your Email Address again in the Username field and enter your Password.
  13. Ensure Configure Automatically is checked and click Add Account.
  14. Outlook will prompt for authorization to connect to the server’s Autodiscover service.  Check “Always use my response for this server” then click Allow.
  15. The Accounts menu will provide a description of the account you just created.  Ensure your Exchange account is highlighted, then click the Advanced
  16. Enter the Exchange Server address, Directory Service Server address and Search Base.

17.Ensure the “Use SSL to connect”(recommended) check box is selected below the Microsoft Exchange Server address.


Known issues:

  • Outlook 2003 is not supported (because Outlook 2003 does not support autodiscover)
  • Network latency may be experienced during the initial synchronization (upload/download) of user data from the server.
    • When Outlook says “All folders are up to date” and “Connected to: Microsoft Exchange” you can resume normal operation.
